Nightwalker

Across the blue black sky glow the denizens of night
The moon and stars--the lonely clouds drifting on their way
And I their land-bound counterpart
The loneliness of night a twin to my own
I share the night's freedom as well as its solitude
My thoughts, my prayers cut a swath through the shadows
The edges of darkness part, giving way to my ponderings and petitions
A wind interrupts my solitude with the smell of flowers
The breeze-borne petals float by me
Suddenly I'm no longer alone
My Comforter stands before me
As real in my nights as in my days
I make the journey home, smiling as I realize I was never alone
