Remembrance

I'd swore I'd die.
I didn't think there was enough of me left to go on living
That day she left me with my heart clenched in her fist
My life crumpled--ruined
My will hissed out of me like air from a punctured balloon
All that was left was a slowly fading remnant--broken and lifeless
There were some long hard days for me ahead
Each sighing breath--pain--each lonely, aching thought--pain
At my lowest point in the dark I met You, my Lord and my Savior
You held me and we both cried
I showed You the raw, gaping hole in my soul
You showed me the ones in Your wrists, side and feet
I spoke to You of my lonliness, and You told me of Yours
You swore You'd never leave, never despise or abandon me
That day I made You my God, my Lord, my friend
That once wretched remnant lived, he grew-he thrives
All the books ever made-or ever will, filled end to end with praise,
Could never do You justice-what chance could one poet's poem?
So I give You again all that I am, all that I will be, and I am Yours
I remember.
